New Moon in Rohini sidereal Taurus, May 26, 2025 at 23:02 eastern time: Indulgence/Essential

This New Moon is in Rohini, a beautiful degree of sidereal Taurus ruled by Venus and the Moon called "the Star of Ascent.” When present in the sky, Rohini can soften the sharp edges of life, drawing our attention back to the body, to nourishment, to the arts and to the pleasures of life. As this Moon is governed by Bramha/Prajapati the Creator, it is a highly spiritual sign, one that reminds us to see ourselves and the world around us as cosmic creations. Rohini’s symbols – the banyan tree, chariot, and temple – all speak to the human experience as a fusion of earthly and divine. The tree roots come from above and below, the chariot moves us forward while our hands barely grasp the reins, and the temple calls us inward and asks us to honor our highest selves.

Being fully in Taurus and ruled by sensual planets, this Rohini Moon can easily tip into indulgence. But the Saturn and Ketu aspects caution us against overdoing. On their own, they encourage austerity and moksha/release. As they glance towards this Moon and influence it, they are asking us to rest and reflect upon what truly brings us peace, beauty, and love. This New Moon is a time to create rituals focused on simplicity, serenity, sustainability – to reconnect with what’s essential from a place of bhakti – devotion. While we do this, we are challenged to look at Rohini’s shadow side that may arise within us: a feeling that something is missing or that what we have isn’t enough. This “grass is greener on the other side” complex Rohini can default to can leave us chasing false desires based on comparison, while forgetting to honor what we already have, and move towards what we truly require.

As we plant seeds this next lunar cycle, the ideas of what’s essential and what’s indulgent are up for examination and reflection. (Keep in mind self care practices can feel like both of these, at least initially.) With Jupiter recently moving into Gemini and Saturn into Pisces, this Rohini Taurus New Moon and its connections also pull into clear focus that it is a time to discern between mental and emotional hunger vs. the yearning to express and create from deep within. The planetary aspects ask us to face and release outdated patterns and refine our pursuit of “abundance” into something more soul-aligned and seva-driven – that will serve our dharmic paths and serve and support ourselves and those around us from a place of joy.

With Mercury joining the Sun and Moon, and with Ketu and Saturn also aspecting this New Moon, we are encouraged to ask ourselves:

-What am I creating from an inner pull or an intuitive inclination?

-What am I building out of ego or pressure?
-What am I holding onto or grasping for that I don’t need anymore?

-With so much shifting, what does true abundance mean to me now?

-What feels nourishing and grounding?

-What rituals am I gifting myself?

-Which areas of life feel rich: materially, emotionally, spiritually? Which feel neglected?

-Where am I comparing or chasing what others have?

-What am I building? Is it in alignment with my deepest truth?

-How have I grown? Where am I still growing?

-What feels indulgent? Essential? Both?
