July 29,2026 10:35am ET: Full Moon in Shravana: Tune in and Listen / the (Reluctant) Reset
The Full Moon is in the sweet sign Shravana, a degree of sidereal Capricorn known as the “listening star.” This lunar cycle began with the New Moon in Punarvasu, asking us what we are revisiting, reconsidering, and healing. This Guru Purnima - or the Guru’s Full Moon - has the Moon sitting opposite uplifting Jupiter (Guru). This is a time to give thanks to our mentors, to tune into our spirituality and look at our vision for the next phase.
Normally this would be considered a very supportive and encouraging time, but Jupiter is deeply combust, sitting in exact degrees (12° Cancer) to the Sun, which can obscure Jupiter and its indicators from view. This can take the wind out of our sails, make us feel deflated and doubtful of ourselves, our paths and even the philosophies we’ve held dear. It can make us feel a little lost at sea.
Being in Capricorn, this Full Moon also turns its attention to its governing planet, practical and systems-loving Saturn, which just went retrograde right when Mercury went direct. Saturn retro (July 25-Dec 10) is giving us time to look at: our commitments to ourselves and others, how we’re of service or what we’re avoiding, what we endure and accept in our lives (our boundaries or burdens, so to speak), and how we’ve been showing up or pushing things away. Simply put: are we doing our work, and embracing our karma. The benefit of this moment is honest reflection and assessment, albeit uncomfortable. The shadow side of this time can be extreme withdrawal. The evaluation process will take a while, as is the nature of Saturn and retrogrades, so have patience with yourself and others as we’re all being asked to lean into areas in our lives where it’s time to let go or level up.
All of this with Jupiter and Saturn is the backdrop to this Full Moon, and of the next few seasons. Where other signs could spin out in a moment like this, the Shravana Moon is thankfully softening and steadying things, encouraging us to pause and pay attention – not just to the outside world, but to our inner voice and the connected conversations we’re having. This gentle Moon invites us to listen deeply to our intuition, to the wisdom we hold within ourselves, to what’s been passed on to us from our mentors, and to the subtle insights that often only reveals themselves when we’re still.
As always, we receive invaluable guidance from the nakshatra (Vedic sign) itself. Shravana’s name means “ear” or “hearing” in Sanskrit. Its symbols are: an ear (listening), a trident (divine trinity of mind-body-soul / the destruction of ignorance), and the 3 footprints (connected to the 3 strides Vishnu, the protective presiding deity, took to measure the earth, the heavens and the space in between). It’s a sensitive sign giving us the power to listen intently – to our inner guidance, to insights we receive, to our mentors and loved ones, and to the vibrations of notes and the sounds surrounding us. It’s directly connected to the sound AUM, which corresponds to the beginning, middle and end – to creation, preservation, and dissolution. Some say the Universe itself whirls to the humming sound of aum.
It highlights that vibration breaks up stagnation and so humming, listening to music and mantras, using tuning forks, chanting AUM or other bija (seed) mantras will be helpful these days around the Full Moon to move stuck energy out of our physical, emotional and energetic bodies. The Full Moon and Jupiter’s direct connection to Pluto (not used in traditional Jyotish) also asks us to consider what will bring about the most powerful shift over the next few weeks.
This Moon is about holding space, tuning in and truly listening. It doesn’t overshare or try to force its beliefs on others, but reminds us that the act of listening can be one of the most transformational experiences. It asks us to slow down, drop into our hearts and truly hear what is being shared - either from a friend or from within.
To consider:
🔱What’s your intuition telling you?
🔱What can you actually access that will support you right now?
🔱What will require some work and effort?
🔱Who can you turn to for support and guidance?
🔱Have you been a good listener?
🔱What’s going on with your vision?
🔱What now feels like a hindrance and what is meant to stay?
🔱What are the notes you are creating for this next song of yours?
