Full Moon Cancer Thurs, Jan 25, 2024 at 12:54pm ET: Devoted Attention

The Full Moon is in a degree of sidereal Cancer called Pushya, the Nourisher. It is ruled by the Moon and Saturn, creating a matriarchal/patriarchal energetic about it: one who is caring, reliable, steady and selfless. One of its symbols is the udder of the cow, representing the willingness to give milk freely without expectation; the other is the lotus, the persistent flower whose roots are found deep in the muck. The ruling deity is the ever-devoted Brihaspati, the Lord of Sacred Speech and Guru to the Gods, who grants Pushya the shakti/power to create spiritual energy, often times involving our personal practices and mantra. This Full Moon highlights the importance of nurturing and devoted attention in order to bloom, by supporting those who need it the most, as well as the need for self-care.

The challenge we can face with this Full Moon is that Pushya, the ultimate caretaker, wants to hug and hold onto whatever it is nurturing, sometimes with a white-knuckle grip. This can be out of genuine urge to love and support… or from fear of letting go as we outgrow outdated frameworks and old versions of ourselves. Dr. Lad, my Ayurvedic guru, said the word “Pushya” also means “eraser” in Sanskrit; if we don’t release what isn’t ours to hold, the Universe will help to remove it from our lives. This goes for things to emotions to old patterning, even to relationships.

Take a minute to look at your attachments and see what is nourishing and supportive, and what has remained out of comfort, habit, or even selfishness and stubbornness. Feel into what you are genuinely drawn to and devoted to, whose growth – outside of you or within you – you want to help flourish. These are the shifts to make during this Full Moon time.

FULL MOON PROMPTS:

-What’s felt unclear, uncomfortable, murky?

-What new paths are emerging that need nurturing and care?

-What is asking for attention in order to blossom?

-What has to be released in order to allow this new expression to come forth?

-What practices are necessary for growth to occur?

-What does consistent self-care look like for you?

-Are you feeling nurtured? Are you taking care of yourself? Do you need to reclaim aspects of yourself?

*Pushya is ruled by the Moon and Saturn, which create consistency with care. Even though this Moon is unsupported, carving out time for self-care is key, even if it means withdrawing a bit. Remember Pushya is one to nourish all, so check in with your loved ones now too. But put your oxygen mask on first.

:::PEACE:::
