Feb 1, 2026 at 17:09 eastern: Full Moon in sidereal Cancer, Ashlesha: the Stinging/Freeing Truth
The Feb 1 New Moon is in a powerful and fierce degree of sidereal Cancer called “Ashlesha,” meaning “embrace” or “intertwine” in Sanskrit. Its symbol is the coiled serpent, representing the mythical Nagas: the half-human/half-serpent beings said to have rejuvenative, magical and even manipulative powers. Connecting to the kundalini, it highlights its transformative and intuitive spiritual nature. It empowers us to get out of our own way and speak our Truth, regardless of the other’s ego interaction. We are being pushed now to shed our skin and show up as our true Selves, even if it makes us scared.
Ashlesha’s name shows it can get highly attached, and even manifest in a serpentine squeeze. Be mindful of your motivations these next few weeks. Like the snake shedding its skin, we are in a place of releasing from our old shells and moving step by step to what’s ahead (see previous New Moon). We have some very powerful and revealing eclipses approaching in the next 2 and 4 weeks, and then a volatile, potentially transformative Mars-Rahu conjunction Feb 23 to April 2. This Ashlesha Full Moon comes along before all of this, speaking the hard to swallow truth through us or to us. This may initially sting, but its purpose is to help us to speak up and stand in our divine power, as we are each meant to do.
Being ruled by Mercury and the Moon, this Ashlesha Full Moon emphasizes the importance of connecting to and speaking from the heart and mind. Ashlesha is a most powerful communicator, as long as it remains an open channel and is not biting its tongue out of fear of hurting the other (which is just masked judgment), or purposefully lashing out (which it does when hurt or threatened). It pushes us to embrace the truth and speak it with confidence, to stand firm in our authenticity without wavering. One precautionary piece: Ashlesha can bottle up and bite its tongue, withholding its thoughts and feelings, and then explode out of the blue. It’s important to be mindful of this potential energetic for ourselves and those around us. Keep the communication going, and make sure any difficulties are addressed before they become a volcano.
This complicated Moon can leave people feeling hurt, or it can shake them into alignment as its revelations unravel what’s old and stuck. Like a serpent’s venom, it can be poison or medicine. When we connect with Ashlesha’s energy, we stand in the authenticity flowing through us and show up as we are meant to be: magnetic, without ego and judgment clouding our expression. If we have self-serving intentions or we refuse to let go, then asphyxiating entanglement and downfall can occur.
It’s clear it is time to release from old ties, old ideas and old ways that don’t speak our Truths.
To consider:
🐍 What is your Truth right now? Are you fully willing to speak and live it?
🐍 Where are you biting your tongue, suppressing your voice, or holding back instead of speaking up?
🐍 What truths have been revealed recently to you? Have they challenged or unsettled you?
🐍 Where are you standing in your authenticity – in your genius zone – and where are you still hiding it?
🐍 How comfortable are you expressing your personal power? Are you owning it? Judging it? Shooing it aside?
🐍 What are you entangled in or holding onto that is constricting your growth or draining your energy?
🐍 What old skins, patterns or identities are ready to be shed?
🐍 What unconscious fears, secrets or patterns are asking to be brought into awareness? (*Remember: eclipses reveal what’s hidden so best to face and embrace these now.)
🐍 What would change in your life if you fully stepped into your power and allowed yourself to be as magnetic as you are capable of?
